  18. If an HPFS drive on a Windows NT server is accessed over the network from
  19. an OS/2 2.1 workstation running LAN Server 3.0, the Windows NT computer
  20. halts with a blue screen after a while if the workstation attempts to
  21. access files with extended attributes.
  22.  
  23. If the workstation is accessing NTFS or FAT partitions on the server, the
  24. server remains working without any problems; however, the LAN Server
  25. workstation can trap or hang instead.

  27. CAUSE
  28. =====

  30. There is a problem in the HPFS driver (PINBALL.SYS) for Windows NT 3.1 with
  31. the way it handles extended attributes.
  32.  
  33. STATUS
  34. ======
  35.  
  36. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
  37. Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S.
  38. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. For
  39. information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in
  40. the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):

  44. However with this Service Pack, the LAN Server workstation now experiences
  45. a trap similiar to that experienced for FAT and NTFS partitions. IBM has a
  46. corrective service pack available for LAN Server 3.0 (part number IPU 7001)
  47. which corrects this problem on the workstation. If you experience this
  48. problem, contact your IBM representative for a copy of their service pack.
